In home portrait session fun! Fairfield County, CT

I have to admit there is something special about an in home portrait session. I love my portraits in the park, at the beach and even in my studio but I really appreciate the opportunity to photograph children in their own home. It’s so fun to see them in their natural environment and they are so comfortable too. There is the added bonus of having their wardrobe right there for quick changes and the pets there to be a part of the memories too.

I love to have the kids show me around and pick their favorite places to be photographed. Their room is an extra special place as it often reflects their personality and is a place that will change over the years. Images of them in their room at this age will be so fun to look back on as they grow.

This style of in home photography is more lifestyle. It works really well with my new pricing that includes all the digital images. It allows me to include images the client will treasure but might not put on their walls. I love to capture candid moments in between our planned parts of the session. Moments like a quick stop to color or getting something out of his little toes. Images  a client would not think to purchase at a professional portrait session but that they will treasure as part of their gallery in years to come.

I’ve done at home portrait sessions in houses all over Fairfield County and some in Westchester County as well. They work great especially in homes with abundant light that families love and want to be a part of the image. They are almost like a secondary subject in the photo. I know that I always find myself looking at my own childhood pictures and fascinated by images that were in my home or that included my favorite toys. The memories just come flooding back!

Anyway, I had a blast with these energetic little guys in their home and I’m so glad mom found me! I can’t wait to go back soon! I absolutely LOVE to photograph little kids. It’s been nine years doing this full time and I have to admit that as my children grown out of their early childhood I treasure the sessions with little ones even more!

What age is too old for “newborn portraits”? – Fairfield County CT Photographer

How old does your baby have to be for professional newborn portraits? I hear that question a lot. The answer depends on the photographer. Most “newborn photographers” want the baby to be under 2 weeks old (ideally under ten days) and that is for good reason. They sleep a LOT in their first few days of life, have less baby acne and are more pliable for “posed newborn pictures”.

The problem is that those sessions often need to be booked before the baby is born. If you have not thought about hiring a newborn photographer until after the baby is born you might not get an appointment and you might be told the baby is too old. Those first few weeks of motherhood you are often in a complete fog. Some of us wake up and realize that the baby is changing so fast and we want to capture the newborn stage with professional portraits before it’s too late.

My style of newborn photography works well with newborns of all ages. The 4th trimester as it is often called is still an ok time for “newborn portraits”. Some of my favorite images of my last baby are when he was 12 weeks old. He still looked a lot like a newborn but he smiled and made eye contact and was a little more filled out. I treasure those images.

The down side of photographing an older newborn is that they are harder to get to sleep and when they are awake they often are very wiggly. Wrapping them in the beautiful swaddle poses is difficult and posing them on their belly curled up is impossible. The images I get at that age are still beautiful though. I use layers of beautiful wraps draped over the baby and lay them on a lovely textured blanket or faux fur. I incorporate colors from their nursery or use muted tones that go with any decor.

Here are some sample images of a 7 week old and a 10 week old. These are still beautiful newborn images, they just aren’t curled up in a ball or swaddled in a wrap. We were able to capture their beautiful eyes looking into the camera and their tiny little toes and hands. It took some patience but we also got some gorgeous heavenly sleeping images.

These were taken in my all white natural light shooting room at my home studio. It’s my family room which is a private and very quiet room filled with light. It’s a comfortable room for soothing your baby to sleep. What’s great is that I can allow you the time needed to sooth the baby without any pressure of the photographer being at your home waiting for the baby to fall asleep.

These two little girls are cousins so we decided to have their session together. It was a unique challenge but I actually enjoyed it. I was able to go back and forth working with whichever baby was asleep or laying peacefully. It was also nice for the moms to be together.

Here is the room where I do these natural light newborn sessions. Everyone loves how bright, cozy and airy it is. Mi casa es su casa.:-)

Fun Family Photographer- Fairfield County CT

THIS is why I decided to include ALL digital images for ALL my clients! The perfect “naturally posed” images are wonderful but it’s the fun ones the ones that will make you smile for years to come!

I’m fascinated with family dynamics and love to capture all different sides of a family. It used to break my heart to see families on a budget have to choose between images like these. They should have them all! Now they do!

Yes, of course everyone wants one of the family all posed nicely looking at the camera smiling. It’s not easy for them to get on their own and it’s a nice image to pass down through the generations. It’s a traditional family portrait and everyone should have one. However, it’s the “candid” moments that as a photographer and mom I truly treasure. If you come into my home it’s the silly images of my kids being kids or us playing as a family that you will see displayed as large canvases in our homes. The “personality shots” I call them. The ones that make me smile are the ones that show their spirit!

Teenagers (and dads) aren’t the easiest subjects to get to pose naturally but I always have fun with them. I love to see them loosen up as the session gets going and forget about the challenges that face them on a daily basis and just enjoy being with their family! This was one of my “mini sessions” at Ambler Farm last week and we really had fun! Love the dynamics between these siblings and oh the personalities! Great kids! Their first time meeting me and I’m sure they think I’m crazy but it’s ok because we have images like this for mom!

Newborn photographer- Wilton CT Studio newborn portraits

I’ve been photographing newborns since 2006 and it never gets old. I’m so lucky to have both the studio and natural light shooting room for the newborn sessions in my Wilton studio. I’ve been doing most of them in my natural light room lately. I love the quality of light and my clients love how cozy and beautiful it is.

This session was for a client that has come to me a couple of years for Fall portraits. Their little guy and dog are so cute!  I was so excited to discover she was having a new baby and wanted newborn portraits. We got him into the studio his first week and it made the session so easy. He was such a doll and great sleeper. We even got a huge smile out of him. I could see it was coming by his movements and noises and got ready to capture it! Love those smiling newborn pics!

It was a great and very fast session. Mom fed him before heading over and he was passed out for the first 45 minutes which allowed us to create these beautiful images. His big brother (big sister dog) and daddy joined us later in the session for some new family of four and sibling images too. I’m so happy they brought him into the studio for his newborn portraits!

It was great timing as I had recently purchased a few new props. I now have even more new props. I’m really getting into layering and using muted tones and different fabrics. I’ve gotten a little obsessed with new wraps, furs, blankets, accessories and baskets. My old ones were getting out dated so I gave them away and am having fun collecting new items for the newborn pictures.

Celebrating family with fun portrait sessions! Fairfield County, CT portrait photographer

Summer weather, summer light, summer relaxation! It’s a perfect time for a family portrait session. Most people think they should wait til the Fall foliage for portraits but the summer is such a beautiful time! Another thing I love about Summer family pictures is that everyone is more relaxed without the stress of busy Fall schedules. The tans are another added bonus as we all look better with a little sun!

Kids have a blast playing in the park for the portrait sessions and parents enjoy taking a moment to be truly present with their kids! It’s one of the things I love about photographing family! Helping families create lasting memories through a fun session that is truly a bonding experience, not just a portrait session!

Here are some images from our May and June Family Photo Days. We have July 26th in Wilton and August 29th in New Canaan booking now! Email me andrea@momentsbyandrea.com to book!  Info here: http://momentsbyandrea.com/mini-sessions/
